Distribution: Occurring on both sides of the Cascades crest in Washington; British Columbia to Oregon.
Habitat: Gravelly prairies and wooded hillsides.

Strong perennial with a branched crown and short rhizomes, the stem 4-10 dm. tall, t he lower portion with brownish, spreading hairs 2-5 mm. long.
Leaves basal, long-petiolate, the blades cordate-ovate, 4-8 cm. long and broad, with 5-9 rounded, shallow lobes.
Inflorescence a spike-like panicle up to 15 cm. long; calyx greenish, 7-9 mm. long, the 5 lobes oblong; petals linear, half as long as the calyx lobes, often in part or entirely lacking; stamens 5, the filaments elongating after blooming; ovary 4/5 inferior, projecting into 2 hollow, conical beaks.
Capsule 9-11 mm. long.
